Announced on November 2, 2020, the new Raspberry Pi 400 keyboard computer is now available on the market!

Raspberry Pi 400 Review / Unboxing / Setup. The New All In One Raspberry Pi.

For those new to it, the Raspberry Pi is a series of small single-board computers developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to help teach basic computer science in schools and in developing countries. The original model has become much more popular than expected, expanding beyond its target market into applications such as automation, multimedia, robotics, Internet of Things, and now into IR4.0.

This is the first Raspberry Pi single board computer of its kind. The Raspberry Pi 400 is a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B built into a keyboard. This is a mini keyboard with an American layout and 78 keypads. This is the most practical and innovative integration. For most applications, we will need a keyboard to access or navigate a computer, such as a laptop 🙂

The Raspberry Pi personal computer is becoming neater and more beginner-friendly. The Raspberry Pi 400 keyboard computer makes it easier for anyone to get started with digital creativity. We are quite sure that those who have used the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B board before know that it is a powerful computer that has been used in many projects and products.

This new Raspberry Pi keyboard computer is ideal for laboratories, schools and anyone who needs a computer. Who doesn’t need a keyboard to use a computer? Even in headless mode, you’ll still need a keyboard for initial setup, right? Well, this new keyboard computer is suitable for any application! Typically, a Raspberry Pi board comes with a CPU, GPU, RAM, HDMI media port, USB ports, wireless or wired connectivity, a microSD card slot, and general purpose I/O pins. Millions of Raspberry Pi boards are installed in universities, polytechnics, schools, factories, production shops and even space stations.

Yes, the Raspberry Pi 400 has a processor similar to the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, but with a higher clock speed of 1.8 GHz. This is 20% faster than the 1.5 GHz on the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B. More than a year since the launch of the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 1 GB, 2 GB and 4 GB (8 GB in May 2020), many have proven that it corresponds to the nominal value. with entry-level x86 PCs, and many have tried to replace their desktop computers with it. He never disappoints any of us! With faster processor speed, revolutionary multimedia performance, connectivity options and 4GB RAM, you’ll be amazed by its performance! This powerful single board computer is now built into the keyboard, making it more convenient for everyone.

Many people use the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B as a desktop computer and are amazed at the performance of this small single board computer. Imagine what this Raspberry Pi 400 with the same processor architecture but 20% faster speed, integrated into a keyboard computer, could offer? In addition to significantly faster loading speeds and much better performance for resource-intensive tasks such as emulation and media center use; it’s perfect for daily computer use, artificial intelligence (AI) projects, perhaps media editing, a small web server, or any digital creation project that requires a computer! Since launch, we’ve used the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B board for daily online work, including accessing email, Google Drive, and playing YouTube videos through the Chromium browser, and have been pleased with it. Can’t wait to try out the new, more powerful Raspberry Pi? I’m sure you’ll like it.

Yes, the Raspberry Pi 400 processor (BCM2711C0) runs at 1.8 GHz (the default maximum clock speed), but it does not require additional cooling, even though the motherboard is located under the keyboard. We stress tested this new machine for 20 minutes at full load on each core, with the CPU temperature rising from ~35°C but remaining below 55°C. Amazing! The secret recipe for good thermal performance is the clever aluminum heatsink plate on top of the processor (under the keyboard), which ensures the Raspberry Pi 400 stays cool at all times. Read this article about the thermal performance of the Raspberry Pi 400 here.

The Desktop Kit For Raspberry Pi 5

The Raspberry Pi 400 also retains two USB 3.0 ports, delivering speeds of up to 5Gbps, ideal for connecting fast peripherals such as SSDs and flash drives for USB booting. There’s also a USB 2.0 port for connecting less speed-sensitive peripherals like a mouse or USB to the audio adapter.

USB bootable firmware was released by the Raspberry Pi Foundation as a stable update and many people liked it. The Raspberry Pi 400 is ready to boot via USB right out of the box. So you can get faster boot and performance if it boots from SSD or M.2 🙂 Give it a try!

This feature is built into many Raspberry Pi 4 Model B enclosures, such as the Argon-One enclosure and the Power HAT enclosure. This is a very convenient feature for beginners: you don’t have to click on the Raspberry Pi logo in the operating system and click Shutdown to properly shut down your Raspberry Pi. Or you need to turn the power back on to boot the Raspberry Pi again. The Raspberry Pi 400 keyboard computer has a built-in power button. Ready out of the box, no script or firmware updates required, just use it. This power button supports both soft shutdown (also known as safe shutdown) and hard shutdown (also known as hard shutdown):

To enhance physical security, the Raspberry Pi 400 also integrates a Kensington security slot (also called a K-slot or Kensington lock). This feature would be welcome in a manufacturer’s lab or school to reduce the number of missing computers 🙂

Raspberry Pi 400 Display Add-on. No Hdmi

We all love the push-pull microSD slot (push lock and push release) on the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, but it has been replaced by a push-pull microSD slot on the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ and 4 Model B. We hope to bring it back soon. Now the wait is over: the Raspberry Pi 400 comes with a MicroSD card slot. Easy and safe! No more missing microSD cards.

The Raspberry Pi 400 also features a true Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 connector designed for ultra-fast wired networking, making it ideal as a media server or networking project. We were able to get 930Mbps (average) through Iperf3 on the Raspberry Pi 400’s Ethernet port.

Like the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, the Raspberry Pi 400 is capable of supporting 4Kp60 media and features two micro-HDMI ports that allow you to use the same micro-HDMI cable as the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (if you already have one). With 4K resolution, you can use much larger displays with clear, sharp, high resolution. Use H.265 4Kp60 hardware decoding to watch 4K movies on your favorite media center distribution.

With two micro-HDMI ports, the Raspberry Pi 400 is capable of supporting two displays: one with up to 4Kp60 resolution or two media displays with 4Kp30 resolution.

Aside from the innovative integration of the motherboard into the keyboard, the Raspberry Pi 400 still retains the backwards-compatible 40-pin GPIO, it’s just stocked in horizontal connectors rather than vertical ones. Generally, all digital projects that use the 40-pin GPIO header can be done using the Raspberry Pi 400. However, due to the horizontal orientation, most HATs (hardware attached on top) may have difficulty installing on it. However, this new Raspberry Pi has the same GPIO as the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B.

With a USB-C header for power input, the Raspberry Pi 400 can draw more power (preferably 15W or higher) and provide higher power to its peripherals such as USB 3.0, such as HDD and SSD HDD. However, you can use your existing Raspberry Pi 4 Model B power adapter. We also have matching USB-C power adapters. Grab the UK and EU plug here: both are official power adapters from the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Since the motherboard is built into the keyboard, no additional case is required to protect it 🙂 And with a large heatsink for good heat dissipation, no additional heatsink or cooling fan is required. To save money and hassle when purchasing these Raspberry Pi 400 accessories, just focus on using them 🙂
