Crossfire integrates seamlessly with the design software, workflows and file formats you already use. Users can also choose from Langmuir System’s online library of designs or design something new.
An exclusive industrial manufacturing process is now small and affordable enough to work in your home garage. Roll the machine to your work area and store it when not in use. Open cantilever table design allows you to cut material that would otherwise require a much larger machine.
Unlike traditional subtractive manufacturing methods, CNC plasma cutting does not require complicated fixtures and setup. Simply set the torch height and run the program.
Put one of the fastest industrial metal cutting processes in your home garage or shop. With cutting speeds up to 300 inches per minute, the CrossFire brings production-level output for your personal projects.

The machine operates on a single 120 V/20 amp socket. You will need additional 120/240V connections for the air compressor and plasma cutter.
The CrossFire’s cantilevered gantry allows you to cut material that does not fit in the cutting area. Technically you can place full plates on the machine with other external support, but we recommend cutting full plates to a more manageable size before cutting.

Yes, the front panel has an expansion port so accessories such as limit switches and air scribers can be added by the owner. In the future, we plan to release additional accessories for the machine that can be connected via this expansion port.
Yes, additional accessories such as the Laptop Stand, XL Kit and Z-Axis Upgrades can be purchased at a later date. Please note that the price has been reduced and shipping is free when you purchase add-ons bundled with the CrossFire.
Plasma cutters without ‘High Frequency’ start or ‘Blow-back’ start are compatible with the CrossFire line of CNC machines. See our plasma cutter compatibility page for more details and a list of known compatible cutters.
The maximum sheet thickness that can be supported by this machine is 1″ (25.4 mm) steel sheet. Although the CrossFire CNC machine can support material up to 1″ thick for cutting, the maximum cutting thickness for your setup will depend on the specific plasma cutter you are using. We recommend that you consult the user manual of your respective plasma cutter for relevant information regarding maximum cutting thickness.

Eight Tips For Avoiding Common Plasma Cutting Mistakes
Langmuir Systems maintains a customer support portal with frequently asked questions and other troubleshooting information. For any other questions, please contact support@I always thought a CNC plasma table would be too dangerous or expensive to use in my home shop, where I don’t actually build anything to make a profit. While a plasma table presents some unique challenges, such as dealing with the metal fumes it emits, I can officially say that I was able to build one “affordably” (<$4k) and safely. And I'm so glad I did! Mild steel plasma cutting designs are the most fun I've had in a while. I might even say I like plasma cutting more than 3D printing (shocking, I know). Unlike the mill, plasma cutting parts do not require careful planning. I simply load a .DXF file into my favorite CAM program, generate some G-code and the plasma cutter is on its way.
While there are many affordable CNC plasma tables on the market, it is important to remember that you get what you pay for. I can usually get a little more mileage out of my money by buying my own parts and building the device/machine. However, this isn’t always true, especially if you break components during the build or if you buy the wrong parts. What I can promise you is that building your own plasma cutting table will give you superior knowledge about the operation of your instrument, allowing you to quickly identify and solve problems.
This CNC plasma table was built in collaboration with OpenBuilds, a company that sells open-source linear actuators, CNC machines, and so many other tools that support the Maker community. We were able to adapt their existing Lead Machine, which is typically used for CNC milling, for plasma cutting. This required a few more changes than just swapping the router for a plasma torch. So make sure you watch the video and read the additional information below to learn more about all the steps required for this conversion. Because this plasma table is based on the Lead Machine, it is informally called the Lead Plasma.
For full transparency, the parts needed to build the main plasma were provided by OpenBuilds to Dr. Given to D-Flo so he could test it. This project precedes the official release of the Lead Plasma kit, so you will need to source the parts individually from the BOM below. I will update this project when the kit is released.

Building the CNC table is well documented because it is based on the Lead Machine. The assembly instructions for this machine can be found here. OpenBuilds has also published YouTube videos covering the mechanical and electrical parts of this build.
Plasma cutting is a 2D process because you cannot control the depth of the cut (on hobby level machines). You either cut through the material or you don’t. For this reason, a motorized Z-axis is not necessary for the functionality of a plasma cutter. A manual slider that allows you to adjust the distance from the torch to the material would be sufficient and many inexpensive plasma cutters forego a Z-linear actuator. However, this manual adjustment of the torch height must be made at the beginning of each cut because not all material has the same thickness or flatness. Additionally, material can warp during the cutting process, so you may need to pause the plasma cutter between tool paths to adjust the torch height.
A floating head is a simple assembly that automates the initial height adjustment of the torch, but has the added expense of requiring a motorized Z-axis. In an ideal world, there would be a switch at the very bottom of the mouthpiece. Finally, as the Z actuator moves the torch closer to the material, the switch is activated, signaling the
