I Tested The Worlds First Dolby Vision Supported Long Throw Projector And Its Game Changing

I Tested The Worlds First Dolby Vision Supported Long Throw Projector And Its Game Changing – I’m challenging everything we know about home entertainment by switching from TV to projector. So, will this be a game changer or a complete disaster? Let’s find out with this: XGIMI HORIZON Ultra, the first long-throw 4K home projector in the world with Dolby Vision.

Starting with the unboxing, in addition to the projector itself, there is the User Guide, a very premium looking remote, which reminds me of a better version of the Apple TV remote.

Next, looking at the design and construction of the projector, the HORIZON Ultra has a design that I have never seen before in a projector, because when you think of a projector, you immediately think of a huge, clunky piece of technology that you normally see in a classroom or in a lecture hall, right?

But this projector looks absolutely beautiful. It has a combination of retro and future aesthetics. It also has a nice boxy design that is overall light silver with some darker beige as side accents.

Then in front there is the Harman Kardon logo because yes, the audio comes directly from them.

So yes, overall, even when the projector is just sitting on the shelf or table, it looks like a statement piece or just a regular speaker that really screams premium. The weight was also quite heavy, so you know you’re getting a really high-quality build.

However, the most interesting factor is that the front slider automatically slides down when the projector is turned on, revealing the projector’s 4K lens and other sensors.

And honestly, just seeing the slider lower when you turn it on is very cool and makes this projector feel even more premium than it already is.

Moving to the back of the projector, you’ll find the projector’s plethora of I/O ports, which include:

Now let’s move on to the hardware. As mentioned above, this projector is the world’s first long-throw 4K home projector officially certified by Dolby Vision. It has a projection ratio of 1.2 to 1.5:1 with options for Front, Rear, Front Ceiling and Rear Ceiling projection methods.

It also has precise color accuracy, distinct contrast, and clear black and white distinction. You will thus be able to say goodbye to the typical muddy colors that you usually got from projectors of the past.

It also uses dual light technology that combines laser and LED technology, allowing them to overcome the shortcomings of each.

Now, how do they complement each other? Well, the laser offers an ultra-wide color gamut and ultra-high brightness at 2300 ISO lumens. LED, on the other hand, provides a natural color spectrum for long viewing periods without any discomfort to the eyes. So this is definitely the best combination of both worlds.

But that’s not all! Let’s say you’re projecting onto a wall like we did here in the studio, most projectors would just look washed out. But this HORIZON Ultra uses intelligent wall color adaptation to adjust the image for the best possible image, even on a non-traditional screen.

Next, let’s talk about intelligence. And no, I’m not talking about your favorite virtual assistant, I’m talking about Intelligent Screen Adaption 3.0 which automatically adjusts keystone distortion, to give you a perfectly straight image, plus it also has autofocus, so no more blurry messes, especially with lossless screen scaling.

As for sound, the projector features dual 12W Harman Kardon speakers. These speakers feature Dolby Audio surround sound, DTS-Virtual X, DTS-HD, and other Dolby certified audio features.

As for what makes this projector work internally, the projector comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It also works on Android TV 11 with Chromecast built-in. It also supports AirScreen, which is an Android version of AirPlay.

In terms of connectivity, in addition to the I/O ports mentioned above, it also supports dual-band WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connection.

My main complaint with projectors is always the fact that the image produced is never up to par with conventional TVs. After using HORIZON Ultra, my opinions have completely changed.

Xgimi Horizon Ultra: The Ultimate 4k Dolby Vision Projector!

The hybrid laser and LED light provided extremely accurate colors and sharp contrasts. Very accurate to the point that the entire team is considering using this projector as a video editing screen. Should they do it?

Because the overall blacks look black, very close to what an OLED can look like, but obviously not exactly like an OLED, but the whites also look white, where everything else was pretty amazing too.

Plus, the ultra-high brightness of 2,300 ISO lumens also means you don’t have to keep the room in total darkness all the time.

Now, did you notice how I said ISO Lumens instead of ANSI Lumens? What’s the difference you might ask? Well, firstly, ANSI stands for American National Standards Institute and ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization.

Awol Vision Ltv 3500 Pro 4k 3d Triple Color Laser Projector 3500 Ansi Dolby Vision Atmos Ust Laser Tv Home Theater Projector

Both measure the brightness of a projector, except that 1 ANSI lumen is equivalent to 0.8 ISO lumen.

So for projectors in general, you will sometimes see “ANSI” or “ISO” in front. This is exactly the purpose, so it’s a bit like saying a flashlight is super bright, but it gives you an overall measurement of how bright it is!

So yes, with that high brightness, the quality of this projector is like having your own personal cinema at home, without the smell of popcorn and other funky BO smells you might smell at the cinema these days…

In my experience, the automatic keystone adjustment feature is a lifesaver! I don’t really like fiddling with projector settings just to get a proper viewing angle.

So having the projector adjust it and the resolution not only saves me a lot of time, but also gives me fewer potential headaches, because I also get stressed out quite often with some tech items.

And that’s great, especially when I bring this little beast between my house and here in the studio.

The built-in Harman Kardon speakers sound surprisingly good. They really benefit from all the Dolby Audio features that XGIMI has hooked this thing up with. It practically turns your living room into a mini-cinema with truly impressive sound quality!

So yes, the most important thing for me is the overall experience, due to its size and visibility, it is much more immersive than a TV and feels very real.

Plus, projectors are great for those of you who don’t have a lot of space in your home – you can literally project a giant image anywhere, as long as it has a plain wall.

So in conclusion, my overall experience with this picky, as it may be difficult to get to for some as it retails at RM14,000 or around USD2,900.

So if you’re still on the fence between projectors and traditional TVs, it might be time to reconsider.

And while you may not be familiar with this XGIMI brand, you should know that the brand was born in 2013 and has won over 44 international awards, including the CES Best Innovation Award, the Red Dot Design Award, and more.
