The receiver coil is mounted on a Hyundai Kona EV, which is parked over a 14-inch diameter polyphase transmitter, with five inches of air space between them. This system is measured at 100 kW, with 96% efficiency – comparable to what you will get from a cable and a very good plug. The researchers note that conventional coil technology in benchtop lab tests has transferred power at 120 kW, but say that this is the best they have tested in a car – and the polyphase coil design allows the highest power density in the smallest coil. , making the system relatively compact and covenantal.
