Earlier this year, Google briefly announced a new “Satellite SOS” menu on Pixel phones that confirmed plans for Pixel devices to communicate their location and key information, along with real-time messages, in emergencies. in areas where there is no mobile phone service. It was quickly removed, but it is clear that Google is working on the creation of satellite support. In April, other research revealed a UI to find a satellite as well as Google Maps sharing locations.
Recently, information about Google’s Pixel 9 series suggests that performance will be available with that series of devices. In particular, the new Exynos 5400 modem is used with the Tensor G4 to use satellite connections.

But, again, the Exynos 5300 modem found in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 also specifically supports satellite.
With that in mind, some new findings in Android 15 Beta 4 spotted by Android Authority make a lot of sense.
In the latest beta, the strings correctly describe “Pixel Satellite SOS” and say “Your Pixel has been updated” to support the feature.

Features And Prices
There are two ways to read that. For one, Google may plan to update compatible Pixel devices (which, in theory, should be everything from the Pixel 7 onwards) with Satellite SOS support. But, on the other hand, this information can only be for the Pixel 9 series, assuming that the display is not available at launch, which, with Google at the helm, is very possible.
I think they would be wise to use this in Google One subscriptions (after two years free). It’s clear that the Pixel is special. But here’s how it works as an example of owning a Pixel vs. other phones with a Google One storage subscription.
However, since the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 were not designed with satellite connectivity in mind, it is possible, it seems, that they will not be able to support this type of connectivity on a hardware level .
Whichever Pixel devices end up with support for Satellite SOS, another string that clearly indicates that Google will offer this new type of communication for the two years. No word on the price after those two years, though.
