I’ve been collecting AI-based imaging tools over the past year, and one has become my go-to over the past few weeks – Craiyon (formerly Dall-E Mini).

How To Use Craiyon Ai Formerly Known As Dall E Mini

Of course, it’s nowhere near as good as OpenAI’s full Dall-E 2 system, which is completely photorealistic and mind-blowingly amazing, but Dall-E 2 is in closed beta and you can’t have it. You can get on the waiting list, but I hear there’s already a million people on it.

Craiyon: Putting An Art-making Ai Through Its Paces

Craiyon currently does a poor job with faces and images are quite small. The company says it’s working on improving both. Personally, given how fast AI is developing, I expect to see rapid improvements quickly.

Will this replace artists? No, I don’t think so. It takes a long time to get images you like. If you have time, you can play with the system. If you don’t have time, hire an artist. I think it can be a great tool for artists because they can quickly generate a lot of ideas, pick the best ones, curate them from the clients, then turn them into book covers or whatever they were hired to they do.

I expect prices for generic style book covers to drop quickly once more artists can use Dall-E 2. Craiyon isn’t good enough – yet – for professional level work.

However, Craiyon is easy and fun to play and good enough for blog post illustrations. And if you’re smart about it, a little more.

10 Free Ai Tools To Generate Images And Web Design Elements

Crayon is free and has no limitations. It gives you nine results for each prompt, so you can keep trying it until you get something you can use. Yes, each performance takes about a minute, so have something else to work on while you wait.

Let’s say, for example, that I’m writing a space opera and I want a picture of a spaceship. Press that orange pencil button to the right of the prompt box and it will generate new photos for you.

Click on one of the smaller squares and you will get the full size image. The full size image isn’t high quality, but they say they’re working on it.

The prompt doesn’t have to be just one word. You can add to it to get closer to what you want.

Ux Principles For Ai Art Tools Like Dall·e

You can add “in the style of Pablo Picasso” or “watercolor” or “studio photography” or “scientific illustration” or “movie poster” or “cybernetic” or “plastic toy” or “epic fantasy cover of book’ to your prompt. Any art style you can think of, pretty much.

You can use the name of any famous artist or photographer. As long as it’s famous enough, you should get interesting results.

You can also add material descriptions like “fabric” or “felt” or “jewelry” or “diamond” or “balloon” or “ice sculpture”. I loved the felt spaceships! Try “paper mache” or “origami”.

And you can add art styles like ‘cubism’, ‘expressionism’, or ‘pointillist’, or ‘digital art’, or ‘steampunk art’, or ‘line art’, or ‘pencil drawing’, or ‘drawn with spray on wall’ or ‘pixel art’ or ‘stock photography’. Check Wikipedia on art styles for some ideas. Craiyon may not know all of them, but he will recognize the most famous ones.

Ai Tried Into Imagining Kris…

Add modifiers like “award-winning art” or “current on ArtStation” or “photorealistic” or “Unreal Engine” or “detailed” or “nature photography” or “National Geographic” to improve quality.

Most of the images we received above are close-ups. But you can play with camera angles and composition prompts to get different looks.

You can ask for ‘aerial view’, ‘far shot’, or ‘portrait’, or ‘wide angle’, or ‘fisheye lens’, or ‘extreme close-up’, or ‘macro’, or ‘bokeh’.

You can also add location descriptions like ‘in the middle of a field’ or ‘on a roof’ or ‘in a tunnel’.

How To Get Started With Craiyon Ai (dall-e Mini)

Add some adjectives like ‘dark’, ‘colorful’, ‘futuristic’, ‘vintage’, ‘abstract’, ‘soothing’, ‘foggy’, ‘early morning’ or childish.’

Use the worlds “inside”, “next to” or “above” to put things together. Such as “cat inside a spaceship” or “commando inside a spaceship”.

Do you like the TV show “Rick and Morty” and want something in this style? Add “screenshot from Rick and Morty” to Craiyon’s prompt.

Now note that I’m trying to keep my prompts simple here so you can see the effect of each one individually. But if I wanted to work with any of these images further, I would add some of the additional modifiers I mentioned earlier.

A Commentary On Ai Generated Art

I love using Canva for projects I’m working on with other people, and it’s my recommendation for people who are new to digital image editing.

You can easily upload your Craiyon images to Canva and use them as part of your projects. For example, you can use Craiyon images as part of website or social media graphics, for advertisements and even book covers.

To make a book cover in Canva, just click “Custom Size” — I recommend 1600px wide by 2400px high for the best ebook cover proportions. Then on the far left click on “Templates” and search for “sci-fi book cover”. Choose one you like, then replace its image and text with your own.

Here are four covers made with standard sci-fi cover templates from Canva and AI-generated art from Craiyon.

How To Use The Craiyon Ai Image Generator To Create Art

I wouldn’t use any of these covers for a commercial book, but since they only took a few minutes to make, I wouldn’t have a problem using them as temporary covers for works in progress or covers for free or Stories for 99 cents.

According to the US Copyright Office, AI art cannot be copyrighted, so someone else could in theory steal the specific image you’re using. However, the combo cover is its own separate composition and you own it. Under Craiyon’s terms of service, you are allowed to use these images for free if you make less than $1 million a year in revenue, including commercial. But if you use the images to create NFTs, or if you have more than $1 million in annual revenue, you’ll need to shell out some money. It’s unclear how Craiyon can enforce this since AI art cannot be copyrighted.

For example, check out the free DALL·E 2 Prompt Book or the Dall-E Dictionary. or Dall-E Prompt Engineering Guide.

And check out the Craiyon forums for some fun examples of what people are doing with the app, or the #craiyon hashtag on Twitter or Facebook or Instagram.

5 Ai Art Generators You Can Use Right Now

Craiyon AI was designed and developed by developer Boris Dayma as a free text-to-image AI tool. It has evolved significantly through internal improvements and input from the open source community. In addition to generating new images, Craiyon maintains a library of pre-existing images that can help with your queries. Originally known as DALL-E mini, the site underwent a name change at the behest of OpenAI, who felt the original name was too similar to their own DALL-E image generator.

Conclusion “In conclusion, Craiyon is a unique combination of AI and artistry, transforming textual descriptions into images. With its diverse style options, user-friendly interface and additional features such as image scaling and t-shirt printing, Craiyon is shaping the future of digital creativity.”
